This morning I made a new oatmeal concoction. New for me, but not the rest of the blog world :)
As much as I love eating bananas, I don’t really like anything that is banana flavored. Like candy, bread, muffins, etc. Weird, isn’t it?
But we had one lonely banana this morning that was in the verge of death, and since mushy bananas aren’t my favorite, I decided to cut it up and add it to my oats this morning while they cooked.
The verdict?
I could barely taste it!

In addition to the banana, I added agave nectar and cinnamon.
So adding the banana turned out to be a great way to get some additional health benefits without even really tasting it!
Now I’m going to switch gears for a second.
I was perusing the New York Times earlier, and came across this article, titled “Train the Mind to Run Right Through Winter”.
The basis of the article is about how most of us tend to skip our workout during inclement weather, or at least head to the gym rather than running outside.
I will admit that if it’s precipitating, I always go to the gym instead! I don’t like being wet and cold when I run. I don’t mind bundling up and running in cold weather, but being wet AND cold is another story.
After reading through the article, it reminded me of Jess’s post the other day about fair weather runners. She is hardcore and loves to run in inclement weather, and enjoys it when the fair weather runners stay home! I’m impressed :)
Are you a fair weather runner?

I love running in inclement weather!! It makes you feel so much more “hardcore” after you finish a tough run :) And all the fair weather runners think you’re crazy…
I don’t like banana flavored things either – except for oatmeal!
How funny – I linked to this article in one of my posts last week! Great minds think alike right? I’m not a huge fan of running in the rain either. But for some reason snow doesn’t bother me too much. I’m going to try to be a tough runner this winter season and get out there despite the conditions.
I use to run in the winter 24/7 but lately I’ve been a pansy about it. I need to keep it up and not be tempted by my treadmill.
Meg! Thanks for the shout out! I haven’t seen that article, but am going to go check it out ASAP. I don’t know that I’m hard core, I just prefer the peace and quiet of the winter months. Nothing like running when the ground is covered with a light dusting of snow.
Mashed up bananas in oats is my favorite!! :)
im trying really hard not to be a fairweather runner this winter- have you seen ange’s project snow on ohsheglows? Im determined to run throughout the winter, even in the northeast, do it as SAFE as possible (lots of layers!) and i know it will make me a better runner in the springtime.
Thanks for the article link and discussion! its good to know a bunch of us bloggers are debating the same things.
I have not seen Ange’s project snow but am definitely going to check it out! Thanks!
I guess I could be considered a fair weather walker. You know winter is my second favorite season after fall. I love to walk on those sunny brisk blue sky days.
A drop of rain and you won’t see me out. I do love to walk in the snow though.
