Boy have we come a long way since our first Christmas tree!
Christmas 2006 – the North End, Boston, MA
This is what I would like to call our Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
It was the biggest tree that our apartment would allow. Do you see the kitchen sink to the right?
Yup, our kitchen and living room were all one room. Off to the left was one bedroom, one bathroom and one closet.
It was quite cozy to say the least :)
This was the year before our wedding and we were trying to save some moola!
Fast forward to 2009….
It still needs a tree skirt and a star, but it’s a huge improvement from 2006, huh?
We’ve never followed a “theme” when decorating our tree. I have a bunch of ornaments from when I was a kid, and we purchased a few new ones throughout the past several years. So our tree is a hodge podge of ornaments.
It almost looks like a 5 year old decorated it. But we like it :)
Here are some of Chris’s favorite ornaments.
And here are some of mine.
I like the goofy ones.
Speaking of goofy…
Check out Nylah with her reindeer antlers.
She looks thrilled, no?
Don’t worry, we didn’t purchase the antlers for her. These were from my office holiday party last year.
What’s that you say??
I’m supposed to be writing about food and fitness?
Oh, yeah… I got sidetracked a bit.
Dinner last night was more leftovers!
I took some jalapeno chicken sausage (no turkey left) and sautéed it with the leftover roasted vegetables and green beans.
Then I piled on some of the other leftovers.
Apricot glazed sweet potatoes.
Believe it or not, we still have a few leftovers to eat!
For dessert I had a handful of holiday cookie bites.
I had to use a previous photo :)
Breakfast this morning was black & blue oats!
1/4 cup of steel cut oats with frozen blackberries and blueberries, and a tsp of brown sugar.
The berry flavor was delicious!
I also added some sliced almonds and coconut on top.
And had an Arnold thin with chunky Barney Butter on the side.
I tend to prefer creamy peanut butter & almond butter, but I definitely enjoyed the chunky Barney Butter!
It has been a lazy morning and we really don’t have any plans to get our butts moving any time soon. We deserve the rest though, right?!
We are just sitting around enjoying all of the Christmas decorations :)
Have you decorated for Christmas yet?

I’m loving the veggies and chicken sausage.
Here’s a pretty good example for the difference in cost of living between Boston and Durham :)
I’m a little bit jealous of your holiday bowl. Just a wee bit.
Our Christmas tree is always hodge podge style. It’s usually a collection of all the rando ornaments we got as gifts and made in elementary school. Verrrry childish haha
I can’t wait to put up the christmas tree and stockings and all the other christmas decorations! To me thats the true sign that the holidays are here!
Your tree looks beautiful! :)
Great Tree……..! Better than the Charlie Brown tree. Are they elk antlers Nyla is wearing? Still eating leftovers? Beautiful here today, better than the cold south.
O my god, the first picture of Nyla is hilarious. Her face looks so funny! What kind of dog is she?
Pretty tree! You guys have come a long way!
Cute bowl – love the reindeer!
Like the tree! I hear you on the Boston apartments! One year in Beacon Hill my tree was about 2 ft tall. Not sure if I am going to cram one in this year :)
my family never gets their tree until two weeks before christmas. in socal the air is so dry that if you get your tree any sooner, you’ll be looking at a brown one by christmas instead of a green one! but i looooove yours!
Keep the Christmas photos coming! They’re just as good as the food photos.
My boyfriend and I had a Charlie Brown tree last year. I think we’re going to get something small this year, but with a lot more branches!
I saw those holiday cookie bites at Target to day and IMMEDIATELY thought of you! I might have picked up a package for myself…
