Was this not the longest week ever? It was for me at least. I am thrilled that Friday is finally here and there are only a few more days left until we head up to Boston!
Want to know one of the biggest differences between Boston and Durham? In Boston you have to go to work even when there’s a blizzard. If the T is running, you get your butt to work.
In Durham, when sleet or snow is in the forecast, the entire city shuts down before the first drop of precipitation. Ok, that may be a slight exaggeration, but not by much.
This afternoon thru tomorrow we are in a “Winter Storm Warning”. Would you believe that schools are already closed?? I just find it really funny. No offense to the North Carolinians out there. But when you’ve spent 7 years in Boston and have to trek through a foot of snow to get to the subway, I find it quite humorous that work and schools close down from 2 inches of snow.
Anyway…enough about the weather, let’s talk food.
Breakfast this morning was a fruit smoothie.

In the mix was:
- Blueberries,
- Strawberries
- Mango
- Raspberries
- Yogurt
- Milk
- Flax
- Oats
I don’t know the exact measurements as Chris was the one who made it.
Would you believe I’ve never had greens in my smoothie before? Not sure what I’m waiting for!
This was refreshingly delicious.
On the side we had some wheat bread with almond butter.
Which do you prefer – fruit smoothies or a veggie smoothies? Clearly I can’t answer this one since I’ve only ever had fruit smoothies!
Happy Friday!

I prefer fruit smoothies. Though a PB&J smoothie is one of my favorite mixes.
I have used spinach in a fruit smoothie before. You don’t even taste the veggies.
Definitely fruit smoothies! But I don’t like veggies. :) Also – the week has really dragged for me, too. Ugh.
2″ of snow . . .THAT HAVEN’T ACTUALLY FALLEN! omg, i know.
we should do green smoothies at the same time. i can’t believe neither of us have taken the plunge!
I usually have both in my smoothies. A banana, some strawberries, and some blueberries are sweet enough to but the bitterness of the kale.
umm…I meant ‘cut’ the bitterness of the kale.
Honestly, I’m the smoothie type. I have had both fruit and veggie smoothies (and mixtures of both) and I have found that I feel a lot more satisfied if I eat my calories than drink them. That’s just me though!
I love smoothies. I made one today at work with Kefir. :)
Love the pic of your dog :)
I am so excited for the snow, you see, we live in Houston and are on our way to WV tomorrow and they are having snow storm warning, I can’t wait :)
i def prefer fruit smoothies..smoothies are meant to be fruity!
I wish the city of Boston would shut down in a snow storm! I walk everywhere!
I don’t think I’ve had a veggie smoothie, but it doesn’t sound too appealing. I’m going with fruit!
It is the same way with snow here in Alabama. If flurries are “forcasted”, the whole city goes into panic.
I think I prefer fruit smoothies. The thought of a veggie smoothie kind of makes me gag. Isn’t that why we eat salads?
I’ve never put veggies in my smoothie either. I think I’d have to mix them with fruit. Veggies alone just do NOT sound appetizing. We have a coffee grinder if you want to borrow it!
I think a veggie-only smoothie would be disgusting but you can add tons of spinach to just about anything and it won’t affect the taste. I like adding banana to balance it out. Or chocolate protein powder. TRY IT! :) Or if spinach is too much too fast, romaine is good too and has ZERO taste.
Oh yes, I love it when everything shuts down in NC. Although I’ve been surprised how many times it has snowed and we have still had classes!! Veggies in smoothies are awesome–give them a shot!
I am not a big smoothie fan myself, especially in the winter.
But what I DO love is when the weather forces me to slow down, build a fire, drink tea and read all day. I made homemade ornaments this week and it was so lovely! Stay Tuned!
gosh i wish i lived in a place that canceled for 2 FEET of snow haha. sadly the north east does not. *le sigh*
i’ve never had a veggie smoothie but that’s not saying much because i’ve prolly only had like 2 fruit ones! i just don’t gravitate towards smoothies i guess
I think in general i like the fruit smoothies, but I recently tried those green monsters and it definitely works to jump start the morning!
Love the looks and sound of that smoothie!
As indicated by my blog posts, I am a hard core fruit smoothie enthusiast:)
i am definatly a fruity smoothie!
yours looks so yummy!
I would have to be in the mood for a green smoothie.. with the addition to mango.. it adds that creamy sweetness that I adore in smoothies :)
Green smoothies are the only kind I eat! The spinach just does something magical to it… I can’t stand them without my greens! :)
And I know what you mean about the winter storms down south! I was born in Michigan and lived there til I was 6, so when we moved down here to South Carolina I was very confused about why the schools would close for just a little bit of ice or snow that hardly ever happened anyways!
Haha, that is really funny that they already closed schools down before you even got the snow! I am from the Boston area, so I know what you mean about how that’s crazy! We are supposed to be getting a blizzard tonight!
Looking forward to going home made this week take forever! Have a safe trip back to Boston when you go!
